Ready for Paint

The siding project is complete and we're ready for some paint. We've been very fortunate to have great subs working for us. Up to this point every sub has either been someone we know or has come personally recommended.

Once we got to the siding it was a different story. Troy says at work they call these subs the "dark horse". You just aren't quite sure what you're going to get. In a nutshell, I would just say their idea of a work schedule and ours wasn't quite the same. They started four days later than expected and took about twice as long. Several days they arrived in the afternoon and worked until 9pm or so. It was the first time both of wondered if we were going to need a plan B.

Thankfully, they stuck with it and their work quality has been great. It may be later than we thought but we're ready for some paint!

The Week of Mud

We have been asked many times how life is living in the 5th wheel. Honestly, Troy & I have both found it isn't bad at all. We've adapted pretty quickly to no TV, minimal internet, and low pressure showers. We've both had a chance to catch up on some reading too.

And then it started raining. A LOT! Neither of us minds the rain or getting a bit wet. Unfortunately, it meant sticky, slick mud everywhere. This also coincided with the week the shop and four dump truck loads of dirt were delivered, the siders started working, and the water district began installing a new water vault right in front of our property. It was serious chaos that included both a dump truck and forklift coming close to tipping because they lost traction while delivering their loads. Thanks to some quick thinking and rearranging where deliveries went everyone came out safe. We are super thankful for that!

It's also made us realize that God did us a big favor by keeping our house from selling until the spring. Otherwise we could have been battling the weather this whole time. The sun has come back out and we're getting dried out again. That feels really good!

Roughing it

It's not often you really get to know the guts of your home. Usually, you only see inside the walls because of an unexpected home repair. Troy knows most of this stuff but it's been pretty interesting to me to see all the details of the plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems. Rough in is complete and signed off by the inspectors. Won't be too long and we can cover it all up!
